The 'digital pamphlet' is an experiment I felt compelled to try. First, I did The Tristan Cycle, whose format presented a pagination problem for me, which is resolved now. The Tristan Cycle, Detective TV Brioche, A Handshake Compilation, Lyrics From A Breakaway Broker and Overdrive apply this same print, stack and staple pagination technique: Print the PDF hard copy double-sided in landscape format with pages 'set to turn along the short edge', stack the pages with the cover illustration face down on the table and the page with the encircled '1' facing you. Put the page with the encircled '2' on top of that, and so forth. Staple all once, in the upper left-hand corner if the illustration faces you. Those four titles are formatted to fold in half (along the short edge) for handling or carrying convenience only; Lyrics From A Breakaway Broker wants to be folded into thirds, because in this way, it resembles a financial daily, which is pertinent to the subject matter. As a matter of fact, I delivered the very first sale to a friend in a crisp, new, standard business letter envelope. A picture of what I mean is available here, on my blog.
Street Skills wants to be a folded brochure with a binding: Print the pages double-sided in landscape orientation, to fold along the short edge. Stack them with the page labelled with an encircled 1 on the bottom of the stack, facing you, put encircled 2 page on top of that, and encircled 3 atop all. Now fold all in half along the short edge and put a staple into the left margin, in the middle of the page with the cover illustration facing you. You can see the folding and the staple in Street Skills and Overdrive in the illustration above; the red pointers there help find them.
Of course, you can simply send the PDFs to your Kindle reader.
I hope this experiment suitably honours the do-it-yourself spirit of UK small press publishing, or perhaps has made a contribution to whoever wants to offer their work to readers fast.
